This is a backcountry hike and you should prepare accordingly. It's also a hike best left for times when there's no snow or ice. Stopped by one of my absolute favorite spots in town tonight. I ordered three pounds of crawfish, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Wish I could include a picture of the crawfish, but I ate them all before I snapped a pic. Enjoy an unbeatable view of Bohicket Marina and Lowcountry sunsets at Red’s Ice House!

If you want to avoid the more developed portions of the hike, simply hike to Telegraph Peak and return the way you came. The Three T's Trail hike is one of the more peaceful hikes in the Mt Baldy area. It's a long hike, but a favorite for those avoiding crowds. If you want to avoid the more populated trails, you can simply turn around here and retrace your steps back to the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead. The rest of the hike directions here follow a loop route back to the hike start. If you want to check if there's snow on your hike, read this guide.

Inspired by the legendary make up artist's world-worshipped Glowgasm palettes and backstage beauty secrets, this universally flattering palette is filled with blurring, smoothing and illuminating pans that achieve a runway-ready radiance. SUPER SCULPT is also your perfect Face Contour shade; apply under your cheekbones, sides of the nose and along the jawline. If you have a medium to deep skin tone or a warm undertone… Apply SUPER GLOW to the inner corners of your eyes for the appearance of bigger, brighter-looking eyes. Wear MULTI GLOW as your Eye Prime shade all over your eyelid, and Face Highlight on the tops of your cheekbones. Apply SCULPT as your Eye Enhance shade, layering on top of MULTI GLOW and focussing on the outer corners to add definition to the eyes. Dial up your eyes by applying SUPER SCULPT as your Eye Smoke shade in the crease and along your upper and lower lashlines!
Medium (
This was the least warm-toned shade that I've swatched within the formula, so I could see it being more versatile across undertones as a result. The texture was smooth, lightweight, thin, and fluid without being watery (more like a cross between water and gel), which helped it blend well with moisturizer, primer, or foundation or be spread across larger areas (like all over the face). The doe-foot applicator made getting just a touch out easier for highlighting the high points of the face, though it was less useful for getting product for mixing in. Nudegasm (Sculpt) is a light-medium brown with muted, almost yellowy-olive undertones and a matte finish. It had a very firm, stiff texture that I had to really dig at to loosen product, which yielded more medium, buildable coverage in practice. The powder was blendable and applied evenly to bare skin, but it required some effort to get it out of the pan itself initially.
Charlotte Tilbury Nudegasm Collection Swatches
It leads to people like me getting shades, it’s that powerful. There is not really much I like from this collection – starting from the name; is CT copying NARS in its Orgasm obsession? The only shade here I like is Superfabulous, but I am sure it can be duped. Get starlit skin in seconds with Hollywood Flawless Filter, the customizable complexion booster that’s a primer, highlighter, and luminous mixing medium in one. Like a skin-perfecting digital filter in a bottle, Hollywood Flawless Filter can be used in four different ways to blur imperfections, smooth lines and pores, and illuminate the skin with a dewy, soft-focus glow. In person, Tilbury’s eyes are an electric blue-green that pops, especially when rimmed with her signature thick, elongated violet eyeliner (if you’d like to learn how to make your eye color stand out like hers, you can “Shop by Eye Colour” on the website).
The Perfect Palette
Nudegasm (Super Sculpt) is a dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a matte finish. It had mostly opaque, buildable pigmentation paired with a slightly firmer, somewhat stiff consistency. I found it seemed to yield more product readily after a few uses, but it sometimes required some pushing to dislodge powder from the pan's surface, which made it harder to control how much product I picked up each time. Once applied, the powder blended out without too much effort and wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably. I found it seemed to yield more product readily after a few uses, but it sometimes required some pushing to dislodge powder from the pan’s surface, which made it harder to control how much product I picked up each time.

If you have a fair to medium skin tone or a cool undertone… Wear SUPER GLOW as your Eye Prime shade all over your eyelid and Face Highlight on the tops of your cheekbones, inner corners of your eyes and tip of your nose. Wear MULTI GLOW in the outer corners and crease of your eyes as your Eye Enhance shade, and apply to the apples of your cheeks in an upward motion for your Cheek Swish shade. The quality is mediocre, especially given the price point.
Make up artists don’t come much more legendary than Charlotte Tilbury; with twenty years in the industry, she’s a true trailblazer, creating looks for some of film and fashion’s most iconic faces, and distilling her expertise into a line of luxury make up. The latest release to captivate us, the Super Nudes collection celebrates easy-to-wear neutral make up that everyone, everywhere will worship. From '90s-inspired nude lipsticks to endlessly glowy face palettes, these runway-ready arrivals are destined for your make up bag... I bought this on release but should have waited for your review only 2 shades work for me. I enjoyed the darker Glowgasm palette except the too light bronzer this palette feels like a step back for the brand who could do light, medium, and deep palettes. I can’t express how much I appreciate you discussing inclusivity in beauty.
I don’t understand how a brand can understand that there is more than one shade of “nude” for lipstick but it escapes them that the same doesn’t apply to cheek products… I will say that the palette is more medium/medium deep than very light/light-leaning as one might have expected, though. It would make more sense to offer Light/Medium and Medium/Deep options (at a minimum). Charlotte Tilbury Medium (4) Hollywood Flawless Filter ($44.00 for 30.00 oz.) is a light-medium beige with warm, golden undertones and a luminous sheen.
She is famous, like Dolly Parton, for sleeping in her makeup. Her eyes sparkle as she speaks with the runaway, chatty energy of a hostess welcoming you to a party. Her outsize personality is lovingly parodied on TikTok, and she’s prone to referencing the stars—both longtime friends like Kate Moss, her children’s godmother, and those twinkling in the cosmos—as well as energy frequencies. Tilbury says, “I don’t want to see invisible women,” so her products make eyes look brighter and complexions more dewy, and are known for creating an intensely glamorous effect.

It was ever-so-slightly firmer than the average gel-powder hybrid formula, which already require using a denser, slightly more moderate-to-heavy hand approach (but then they have no powderiness and seem to “melt” on skin a bit). The powder, once loosened from the pan, applied beautifully to bare skin and blended out well without emphasizing my skin’s natural texture. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading visibly. I like most of my products from CT, most of the time I find nothing in the collections though. I have a few LE lipsticks that I love, these new ones will not join my stash.
That pink duochrome shade was unique and ethereal on my skin and I used that palette nonstop for a few months.Alas, this does look too deep and too warm for fair skinned ladies, so I’ll have to pass. I could probably make it work, just to look at that pretty packaging, but not sure I want to work that hard when I have other face palettes that will do the trick perfectly. Pillow Talk is a medium-dark pink with warm undertones and a matte finish. The color was consistent with the standalone version I have of this shade. It had good pigmentation with a soft, lightly waxy texture that applied fairly well to bare skin for all-over color application and was even easier to use strictly as a liner. It stayed on well for over six hours and was non-drying.

The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute estimates that cats kill up to 4 billion songbirds each year. Some of these conditions can affect you and your family too such as ringworm and ticks. You may have other practical reasons for letting your cat outside. The more water your cat drinks, the healthier she’ll be, and the longer she’ll allow you to adore her. There are a few training methods that owners can use to make their dogs recognize commands.

Breed and genetic makeup can impact a cat’s lifespan, just like it can influence size, coat, and physical attributes. Commercial cat food will provide all the essential nutrients for your cat. You should provide the best quality diet that you can afford.
What Is the Average Lifespan of the Common Cat?
Other commercial diet options include a fresh subscription food. Burmese cats are large-eyed beauties with stocky, athletic bodies. According to some sources, the longest living Burmese cat lived up to 35 years. These can be related to arthritis, cognitive dysfunction, or even early kidney or digestive issues. Mature cats should have routine bloodwork done every one to two years to monitor for early changes in the kidneys, liver, or thyroid. Mature adult cats may start slowing down—they won’t play as often and can move into a more sedentary lifestyle.
What are Common Health Issues as Cats Age?
As they age, your cat could develop health issues like arthritis and dental disease. And these cats tend to live much longer than those allowed to roam. "As in humans, many of the changes that occur with ageing in cats are not considered pathological and do not negatively affect overall wellness or quality of life," the researchers explain. "However, ruling out disease is essential when attempting to determine whether an aged cat can be considered 'healthy'."
How to Calculate Your Cat’s Age
So when we say the average cat lifespan is 12 to 15 years, some cats can and will live longer and some will sadly die younger. Cats fit the long accepted scientific view that smaller animals live shorter average lives than larger animals. There's lots of studies that put this down to the metabolic rate and heart rate being higher in smaller animals.

There's a clear difference between an outdoor cat and a stray, because most outdoor cats that have an owner are still going to be getting the care and nutrition of the pampered indoor cats. So it's just that risk factor of going outdoors that drops their life expectancy. It's no surprise that pet parents want to know what the average lifespan of a house cat is so they can gauge how long their adored feline friend will be around. Knowing the lifespan of your feline can help you understand what stage of life your cat is in and give you some emotional readiness as they age. It also helps to understand what health issues or behavioral quirks to look out for as your cat grows.
Our cats share 95.6% of their DNA with the tiger (Panthera tigris).2 Yet, wild tigers live only between 8 and 10 years, whereas those living in zoos make it to 16 to 18 years. Mixed-breed cats, also known as domestic shorthair cats, tend to live longer than purebred cats by a year or two, on average. This is mostly likely due to a more diverse gene pool that reduces the chances of hereditary health conditions common to purebred cats.

The first year of a cat’s life is a period of rapid growth and development. Cats reach sexual maturity by 6 months of age and by they’re 1 year old, they’ve entered a life stage that’s similar to 15 human years. “Indoor cats who are allowed out are also put at a higher risk for trauma, acquiring an infectious disease from another outdoor cat or ingesting toxins, which can be fatal. These risks can potentially shorten their life span despite receiving treatment after returning home,” Rutherford says. As with any species on the planet, health issues impact the life expectancy of cats. Some issues are breed specific, circumstantial, or spontaneous.
Despite the mythical “nine lives” attributed to cats, our feline friends only have one life to live just like humans and other animals. Interactive play also helps cats express their natural instincts and provides mental stimulation. Give your cat toy balls, plush or catnip mice, teaser toys, or a laser pointer to provide entertainment. If you have a kitten, be mindful not to overstimulate them during playtime. Kittens (and even full-grown cats) can become aggressive toward humans or other animals if they get too worked up. It never hurts to call your veterinarian if you find your cat behaving strangely, including behavioral issues that seem to arise out of nowhere.
Your cat may begin to lose their vision or change their coat coloring. Brushing your cat regularly will help keep them from consuming too much hair when they groom themselves, avoiding digestive issues and hairballs. It will also allow you to check your cat’s body and recognize any new lumps, bumps, or sore spots. Be mindful of how many treats they consume throughout the day.
They should have a happy and comfortable routine in your home. Other common health concerns are skin complaints such as allergies, gastrointestinal issues such as intestinal foreign bodies and food intolerances. Preventative treatment against viruses and parasites is necessary for adults too.

With diligent preventative care and early treatment when issues emerge, more cats than ever are living into their late teens and even early 20s. At the lower end of the spectrum, free-roaming outdoor and feral cats have much shorter average lifespans of just 2-5 years. While cats are known for being generally healthy pets, some breeds tend to have more health-related issues.
Take them to the Vet
Being patient and supportive can help alleviate any stress they’re feeling. The classic laser pointer will provide mental stimulation and entertainment for your cat. Make sure if you use a teaser toy or laser pointer that you give your cat something tangible to “kill” and “eat” at the end of the chase, such as a catnip toy or a few treats.

With the ability to pack on pounds easily when overfed and under-exercised, maintaining an optimal weight is crucial for cats to achieve maximum lifespans. They are described as robust, energetic, and often retaining kitten-like personalities late into their senior years. Always having fresh water available to them is a crucial part of a balanced diet. Most obviously, indoor cats have easier access to food and freshwater than outdoor cats do more often than not.
As a pet parent, it can be difficult to think about the life expectancy of your animal. Our pets are such a valuable part of our lives — but sadly, their expected life span is important to consider, especially if you’re bringing a new pet into your home for the first time. Everyone has a hard time saying goodbye to their pets, but knowing how long your cat should live and what stages you can expect them to go through can help you take better care of them. As your cat gets older, they may need special care that they didn’t need when they were young, including special cat vitamins and supplements. Besides becoming less active, cats may experience other behavior changes as they near the end of their life.
Having your cat’s teeth checked by the vet at each visit is also important for your cat’s longevity. Sage Journals published a paper titled “Chronic Kidney Disease in Aged Cats” in 2016. The paper’s authors explain that CKD typically affects senior cats over the age of 12 and that the issue is primarily initiated by aging. The Journal of the American Veterinary Association published a study titled “Investigation of relationships between body weight and age among domestic cats stratified by breed and sex” 2019. Outdoor cats live for 2 to 5 years on average, according to researchers from the California-Davis University of Veterinary Medicine. However, there are many factors, many of which were discussed above, that come into play when talking about the length of a cat’s life.
Do spayed/neutered cats live longer?
You can only notice changes like these if your cat is indoors where you can see his behavior and monitor his litter box usage. This is one of several reasons that inside cats live the longest. The cat who has lived the longest life on record so far was a cat named Creme Puff who landed herself a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for her impressive lifespan of 38 years and 3 days. Her owner credits her longevity to their interesting diet of dry cat food given in addition to broccoli, turkey bacon, eggs, and coffee with cream. Cats that are well cared for and genetically robust live for 18 to 20 years.

Rampling plays a retired teacher named Kate Mercer who, in the opening scene, returns home with a letter for her husband, Geoff (Tom Courtenay), that has arrived from Switzerland. My Katya,’’ a girl with whom he climbed a mountain before he met his wife of nearly half a century, a girl who fell to her death and who has just now been discovered preserved in ice. She is an actress of extraordinary intelligence and sensitivity, with a rare, charismatic beauty and sexual force that has lasted well into her 60s. An alluring presence in features and on television since the 1960s, actress Charlotte Rampling defined sexual freedom and fearlessness over the ensuing decades in such films as "Georgy Girl" (1966), "The Damned" (1969), "Vanishing Point" (1971) and "The Night Porter" (1974). Though her immediate appeal was her physicality, Rampling became a cinematic icon in the 1970s, thanks to a screen presence that was at the same time confident, passionate and reserved.

This cerebral, thought-provoking exposition directed by Olivier Saillard, the director of the Palais Galliera, was the perfect vehicle for Rampling and Swinton’s unique looks and personas. Maybe that is when she looked directly at me for the first time; I’m not sure. I probably don’t remember, because even when she didn’t meet my gaze, she felt more present than most people.

She went on to star in many European and English-language films, including Stardust Memories (1980); in The Verdict (1982); Long Live Life (1984), and The Wings of the Dove (1997). In the 2000s, she became the muse of French director François Ozon, appearing in several of his films, notably Swimming Pool (2003) and Young & Beautiful (2013). On television, she is known for her role as Dr. Evelyn Vogel in Dexter (2013). “I gotta tell ya, you’re incredibly beautiful,” Woody Allen told her at the beach in Stardust Memories (1980). “I guess I’m a little on the beautiful side,” she shrugged in return.
Rampling has admitted that she doesn’t make films to entertain people, that she chooses roles to challenge herself, to break through her own barriers. She was made an OBE in 2000 for her services to the arts; she received an Honorary Cesar in 2001; France’s Legion d’Honneur in 2002; a Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards in 2015. She was awarded the 2017 Volpi Cup for best actress at the 74th Venice International Film Festival. I generally don’t make films to entertain people, I choose the parts that challenge me to break through my own barriers. A need to devour, punish, humiliate, or surrender seems to be a primal part of human nature, and it’s certainly a big part of sex.
In 2008, she portrayed Countess Spencer, the mother of Keira Knightley's title character, in The Duchess and played the High Priestess in post-apocalyptic thriller Babylon A.D. In 2002, she recorded an album titled Comme Une Femme, or As A Woman. It is in both French and English, and includes passages that are spoken word as well as selections which Rampling sang.[citation needed]. In February 2006, Rampling was named as the jury president at the 56th Berlin International Film Festival.
Personal life
Sophie finds Martin hiding in the attic of the family castle and, mostly for Friedrich's sake, agrees to help free him from Konstantin's blackmail. She meets up with Aschenbach, who reveals that Hitler is planning to purge the SA, as he feels its work securing Nazi power in Germany is done, but its leader, Ernst Röhm, is unlikely to quietly let it take a back seat to the SS and army. She’s talking not of Barnaby (who directed her in the 2011 thriller I, Anna), but the magician David Jarre, son from her second marriage to the French musician Jean-Michel Jarre.
She has been seen on the covers of Vogue, Interview and Elle magazines and CRUSHfanzine. In 2009, she posed nude in front of the Mona Lisa for Juergen Teller.[24] In 2009, Rampling appeared in Todd Solondz's Life During Wartime. She appeared in the cult classic Vanishing Point, in a scene deleted from the U.S. theatrical release (included in the U.K. release). Lead actor Barry Newman remarked that the scene was of aid in the allegorical lilt of the film. In 2017, she won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the 74th Venice International Film Festival for Hannah.[6] She received an Honorary César in 2001 and France's Legion of Honour in 2002. She was made an OBE in 2000 for her services to the arts, and received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from the European Film Awards.
“I have no regrets.” Underneath her cynicism, though, is a burning desire for a last grasp at life at its most vivid. Sometimes she reaches up to the wings of the collar of her white shirt and brings them together, a physical gesture of closing off the flow of her voice. She is that vociferous champion of feminism and apparent libertine who earlier in her career scandalized fans by implying in an interview that she was engaged in a lusty ménage à trois. Having won several awards for her performance in "45 Years," released in 2015, the graceful septuagenarian could be crowned once again at the upcoming Academy Awards on February 28, as she is nominated for Best Actress.
Martin's possessive mother, Sophie, has been in a relationship with Friedrich Bruckmann, an ambitious executive of the steelworks, for some time, but he has not proposed because he worries Joachim would not approve of him as the husband of the widow of Joachim's beloved son. Friedrich is friendly with Aschenbach, an Essenbeck relation who has attained a high position in the SS,[b] and, acting on Aschenbach's suggestions that things would be better for him if the anti-Nazi Joachim were to die, Friederich kills Joachim and frames Herbert for the crime by using his personal handgun. Herbert narrowly escapes abroad, but, in his haste, is forced to leave behind Elizabeth and their two daughters. Martin inherits the majority of shares in the steelworks, and Sophie manipulates him into placing Friedrich, rather than Konstantin, in charge. It was her father she thought of when she let slip something that caused a stir which reverberated as far as the Vatican at the turn of the 1970s.
A fourth Cesar nod came in 2005 with "Lemming," a psychological thriller with Rampling as the neurotic dinner guest whose arrival signaled an explosion of ill feelings and violence. Rampling also made news during this period for launching a lawsuit in 2009 to prevent the publication of a biography, penned by a close friend, that detailed her emotional travails in the wake of her sister's suicide and the infidelities inflicted upon her by Jarre. Rampling's smoldering intensity was best served in roles that required her to plumb the depths of the human experience. In Luchino Visconti's "The Damned" (1969), she was the wife of a German company's vice president, who paid for his opposition to the Nazi regime by being sent to the Dachau concentration camp with her children. Her Anne Boleyn in "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" (1972) also trod a delicate line between seductiveness and sadness as she attempted to bend the will of Henry (Keith Michell) to hers before meeting her fabled end. Her most famous role during this period was in "The Night Porter" (1974), Liliana Cavani's controversial film about a Holocaust survivor (Rampling) who became immersed in a sado-masochistic relationship with an SS officer (Bogarde) while interned at a camp, only to resume their tortured couplings years after the war.
In the United States, the film was given an X rating by the MPAA, which was lowered to a more marketable R after 12 minutes of offending footage were cut. We’re in a stately hotel in Edinburgh talking about her latest, Juniper, which she filmed in New Zealand just before the pandemic hit. Ms. Rampling fleetingly dropped her guard as she talked about her role as Kate Mercer in “45 Years,” a woman celebrating a decadeslong marriage to a man, whom, as she discovers to her mounting rage, she hardly knows at all. ” she asked, turning for approval to Ms. Schwartz before confiding that she had almost worn a different outfit, one that another actress had on at the luncheon that day. Yet, it was a chastened, fiercely guarded Ms. Rampling who later that day offered guests ginger beer from a fridge lavishly stocked with fancy French fruit juices and Moët & Chandon, before cheerlessly submitting to an interview. Click through the gallery above to discover why the Lifetime Achievement Award she received from the European Film Awards in 2015 was well deserved.
However, it’s important to remember that tips make up a significant portion of a crew member’s pay, and they rely on tips to make a living. It is worth noting that some cruise lines have a culture of tipping, while others prefer not to tip at all. Don’t assume that all cruise lines operate in the same manner. It’s important to have cash on hand for these tips, and US dollars are usually the currency of choice for the cruise lines mentioned above.
What are the per-day service fees for Carnival Cruises?
For example, not all crew is included in the general tip—some are actually forbidden from accepting gratuities—and sometimes, currency matters. Below, what you need to know about tipping on a cruise, and how to make sure no onboard tip gets lost in the shuffle. Cruise lines typically provide guidelines for gratuities, either as a daily per-person amount or as a recommended total for the duration of the cruise. These amounts can vary, but they generally range from $15 to $25 per person per day, depending on the cruise line and cabin category. Some cruise lines automatically charge gratuities to your onboard account or add it to your cruise fare, while others leave it to your discretion.
Royal Caribbean raises automatic gratuity rate, beginning in November - Royal Caribbean Blog
Royal Caribbean raises automatic gratuity rate, beginning in November.
As for the question, I use this as a guideline regardless of the cruise length actually. With gratuities already being added to the cruise, and they are ever-increasing, I’ve become more selective on how I choose to tip extra. If our room steward goes out of their way for anything, I’ll tip extra… and if they frequently go out of their way, I’ll possibly leave an extra $75 regardless of the cruise length.
My Cruise Line Calls it a Crew Incentive or Service Charge. Is that the Same Thing?
Giving service staff tips in a currency they can’t easily use means they’ll have to pay a fee to change your cash tip into another currency. Many cruisers opt to give extra cash tips to crew members who made their vacation that much more enjoyable. You might want to reward your cabin steward, favorite bartender or MDR server, or any other crew member you think did a great job. If you are unsatisfied with the service your stateroom steward provides, be sure to address any issues immediately. Speak directly with your steward or their supervisor or contact guest services onboard to resolve problems before leaving a lower-than-expected tip.
Something to note is that although daily gratuities aren’t charged, there may be a service fee or tip added to certain services onboard. Please note that gratuities are charged in US dollars for Caribbean, US and Canada cruises. On Costa Cruises, service charges of $12.50 per person, per day are charged for cruises departing from the US. Cruises in Europe, World cruises and those departing from a non-US Caribbean port charge 10 Euros per person, per day. You also have the option to prepay your gratuities before your cruise. This is a convenient option for cruise passengers that don’t want to think about extra charges once onboard.
Do not feel that you need to give additional tips to your waiter or room steward. Additionally, some cruise lines offer prepaid packages that include daily cruise gratuities in the overall cost of your voyage. It’s important to consider which method works best for you and plan accordingly before setting sail on a cruise ship. Here’s what you will pay per person per day for cruise ship gratuities/service fees/crew appreciation as of this writing.
This motivates employees to provide excellent service and keeps cruise prices more affordable by passing the cost of tips on to passengers. If opting for this, remember that while standard gratuities cover the basics like your housekeeping and dining teams, add-ons like spa services and specialty dining are typically not included. Many cruise lines are moving toward bundling gratuities and other add-ons as part of the overall cruise fare, allowing guests to feel like they’re getting more value for their dollar. Another option is to tip individuals directly instead of relying on automatic gratuity charges. This allows you to show appreciation for exceptional service and tailor your tipping based on personal experience rather than a set daily amount.
Should I Prepay the Gratuity Charges?
An additional tip is always appreciated if you receive exceptional service during your spa treatments. The best time to leave a tip for your cabin steward is usually at the end of the cruise during disembarkation. Cruise gratuities are charged to guests, although the rate may be discounted for those 12 and under. Check with the cruise line for specifics during your initial research. Similarly, if a waiter (or sommelier) is keeping track of your wine bottles, they are also expecting to receive an appropriate gratuity. And, if you enjoy ordering room service, it is still customary to offer a small tip each time the staff appears at your door with delicious food.
If you don’t decide to prepay the tips, then the amount is automatically charged to your onboard account each day. When it comes time to settle your final bill at the end of the cruise, you’ll have the gratuity charges to pay as well. How much to tip on a cruise is a question that trips up many first-timers. That's because some cruise lines tack daily service fees onto passenger bills — yet many travelers still hand out additional cash gratuities, either as a matter of course or for exemplary service. While many people will feel like this is ‘greasing the palm’ of the cabin steward, it’s showing appreciation for their proactive attempt at starting the cruise right!
With a beverage package, you’ve already paid the service fee when you bought the package, so the tip is included. However, cruisers don’t always see all of the crew who work behind the scenes for them, like the kitchen and laundry workers. Often, these crew members are part of the tip pool, and they lose part of their expected income each time a passenger removes autogratuities. But let’s say you have a negative experience with your server in the dining room, or you feel that the cabin steward isn’t doing their job. You might want to remove their tips as a punishment for poor service.
The cruise line will assess your fee each day, then they’ll charge your credit card on file at the end of the cruise. With the autograt system, many crew members who rarely received tips before now get a share—like the laundry or kitchen staff on some cruise lines. Cruise lines pay these workers very low wages for the long hours that they work each day, and expect that passengers will tip to increase the crew members’ earnings to a reasonable rate.
Olsen gratuities are entirely at the discretion of each passenger. The recommended amount is £5 per passenger, per day, to be divided equally between the cabin stewards and waiters. This amount is automatically added to passengers' onboard accounts toward the end of the cruise, but it can be adjusted at reception at any point during the sailing. Prepaid gratuities on most non-luxury cruises range upwards of $20 per person, per day. The lump sum is added to passengers’ onboard accounts, and can vary depending on the type of cabin in which guests are booked.
Tipping on a cruise ship has to be one of the most discussed topics about cruising. These questions baffle most travelers, but cruisers are particularly challenged since tips are handled differently than in hotels or restaurants. When you order an ice cream cone or gelato at the ice cream parlor or cappuccino at the coffee shop, you won't see a tip jar as you would on land. No tipping is required – though you may find an automatic gratuity added to your check, just as in the bars. Like it or not, tipping culture is alive and well on cruise ships.
